Sei A - Gasp

  • Scottish producer Andy Graham had a prolific 2012 and 2013, but Gasp is his first release since Wants two years ago. For anyone familiar with that EP and Make It Work, his other previous release for Aus, Gasp should make it feel like Graham has never been away. The title track in particular is a continuation of the moods on those records, with Graham's half-buried vocals coming up against rattling percussion as the whole thing is propelled by a liquid bed of bass. "Never Wander" is a bubbling vehicle for an elastic bassline, though the track's linearity is cannily broken up by the odd beat digression. "4ME2" is the EP's highlight. A contemplative, drifting closer, it somehow makes the sound of filtered and pitched-up bagpipe noises both atmospheric and appealing. Whatever the reasons for Graham's hiatus, it doesn't appear to have interrupted the roll he was on.
