- John Barera and Will Martin's Argot debut is a neat bridge between the Chicago label's bright, airy house music and the pair's high-spec dance floor material. 1, 2, 3 (Feels Right) re-treads the effortless machine funk they crafted so well on their past records, most notably their debut album, Graceless.
The title track's basic elements sound simple enough, but they're weaved together with a keen ear for detail. The cascading dewdrop melodies of "1, 2, 3 (Feels Right)" capture most of the attention, but the bassy kicks and jangly cowbells do the heavy lifting. "High Tide" rides on a piano loop and a polished arsenal of 909 percussion, which thumps its way around a solid, if unspectacular track. "Spin Cycle," with its needling bass and DFA-style cowbells, is the star of the show. The title is apt because the song's essential parts feel as if they're being tossed and twisted in and out of shape for the song's duration. The viscous melodies that swirl around "The Bog" wind down the EP.
