Julian Alexander / Samuel Deep ‎- Get Slapped EP

  • When you're looking through your record bag mid-set, sometimes you just want to find something simple. Maybe time is running out to mix in the next track, or perhaps that subtler cut you're currently playing isn't as effective as you'd hoped. You need something that jacks. Utrecht's SlapFunk Records specialises in just this style of music. It has released around ten records since 2012, and nearly all of them contain stompers that would be useful to most house DJs. SlapFunk's latest, the Get Slapped EP, is a joint effort between long time label associate Samuel Deep and newcomer Julian Alexander, and it supplies exactly the kind of slamming, peak-time house we've come to expect. Samuel Deep's profile has been steadily rising for the past few years, thanks to a series of strong releases on SlapFunk and regular DJ slots around Europe. His two solo contributions are both beat-driven, bass-heavy and rolling. Only a few elements are at play in each, but their sheer weight makes them bombs, particularly the menacing sub-bass of "Traffic Jam." Julian Alexander's two beats aren't too far removed from Samuel Deep's. The steady build and tension of the rattling "Roffel" makes it the pick of the EP, but you can rest assured that whichever track you cue up it's going to get feet moving.
