Melchior Productions Ltd - The Return Of The Cosmic Kids Vol 2

  • Every good Thomas Melchior track has two qualities: skipping drums and emotion. The amount of these things can vary greatly, but Melchior undoubtedly sounds best when he works with snappy drums and a touching melody. The results are rarely as good when one exists without the other, which was the case with Melchior's recent Perlon effort, Meditations 1-6. Thankfully, The Return Of The Cosmic Kids Vol 2 shows him back on top form. Its breezy aesthetic is a reminder of just how effective Melchior can be. The Return Of The Cosmic Kids Vol 2 is a follow-up to a two-tracker of the same name released on Aspect Music last year. Like that one, Vol 2 features side-long cuts, one atmospheric and one more upbeat. To my ears, it's all about the B-side, "Liquid Moves." For ten minutes, punchy bass, shifting hi-hats and a short key riff dance around each other, combining for a feel-good dance floor cut that's sure to put smiles on faces. "Sometimes" is an atmospheric slow-builder. It's darker and less immediate than the A-side, with an ambiguous mood that hovers somewhere between dread and euphoria. Use it wisely, and watch the dance floor light up.
