Julio Bashmore - Rhythm Of Auld

  • Julio Bashmore's latest single, Rhythm Of Auld, offers another glimpse at his forthcoming album, after September's "Simple Love." Bashmore has been on fairly erratic form over the past couple years, and this new release lines up one of his best tracks of recent times alongside another decent, if largely unremarkable, house cut. Where his recent tracks—"Simple Love," "Peppermint," "Husk"—have been rudimentary and fiercely club-focused, the title track feels bold and unhurried. The track features South London's J'Danna, who also appeared on "Simple Love," and flits between her expressive and wide-ranging vocals and a gospel sample, with Bashmore throwing in razor-sharp strings for added colour. His trademark thud makes this very club-ready, but rather than going through the motions it roams with graceful purpose. "Knockin' Boots," on the other hand, is a return to the house-by-numbers approach, looping a stock female vocal sample over single-note synths and a rampant beat.
