Rhythmath - #001

  • It's a spiel we've all heard before: well-known producer goes anonymous in an effort to "let the music do the talking." The founders of the new Rhythmath label out of Italy aren't rewriting the techno rulebook with this approach—or with the deep, functional sound of the imprint's debut 12-inch. But dive into the record's most important thing—the music—and you'll find effective, gimmick-free techno. There are a few people behind Rhythmath, but there's no word whether the three tracks on Rhythmath 001 are joint efforts or made solo. Each is unnamed, deep and driving. Unlike a lot of deep techno, though, heavy kick drums and thick sub-bass make the tracks suitable for the dance floor. The B1 is the closest thing to peak-time material, with chugging, analogue-sounding bass the main feature. A1 and A2 are significantly deeper but still club-ready. Considering its overarching murkiness, the package as a whole is surprisingly diverse, a solid option for house and techno selectors alike.
