Charles Webster: Remixed On The 24th of July

  • Not content with last year's superb 'Born On The 24th July' long player, Charles Webster has called in the remixers. And this isn't your bog standard cash-in album to make a few bucks between albums. Far from it - the remixers are all close associates of Webster, and the thoughtful choices and programming ensure this hits the same quality spots as the original. There are certainly some weird moments, none more so than the cocktail of jazz and dub making up United Future Organisation's take on 'Fox Soup'. Matthew Herbert, meanwhile, splices up a dub of 'Ready', arguably one of the best mixes he's ever done which is saying something. The kick drum is do deep it goes through the floor! Meanwhile Ian O'Brien contributes an intricate remix of 'I Understand You', and the subtle take on 'Your Life', with Charles Webster remixing his own work under the Presence moniker, is remarkable for a scrupulous attention to detail. If you own the original, this album will be self-recommending, and I can assure you it gets better with each listen. If you don't own it, there might be an expensive couple of days to follow!
