Doc Daneeka - Treptow

  • "Treptow" has some shoes to fill after last year's smash "Walk On In." Despite its title (a neighbourhood in Berlin), it's not a move into iron-forged techno. In fact, it's almost as hands-in-the-air as its predecessor, albeit in a subtler way. Still all about the build-up, this one riffs off one of Doc Daneeka's playful rhythms until a rollicking piano dominates for its final few minutes. "Paname (Piano Version)" stretches out even longer, looping a frantic diva sample while teasing its main hook—more piano, but this time dirty and scuffed. With its distorted chords and filter-happy effects, it's more techno than its flipside, but it still has the melodic quality that makes Daneeka's work so likable. And while neither is terribly distinctive, they're the kind of tracks whose brilliance really comes out in a good mix.
