Shanti Celeste - Days Like This / On My Own

  • Since her stellar debut dropped in August last year, Shanti Celeste has been going places. Previously a resident at various parties in her hometown of Bristol, she has since travelled abroad to Germany and Italy and played at fabric in London. On the release front, too, she's taken things up a notch, appearing here on the distinguished Idle Hands label. What's most immediately striking about the balmy house of "Days Like This" and "On My Own" is Celeste's voice. On the former, her dreamy tones breeze over shimmering pads, claps and a bassline so buttery it'll have you yearning for warm climes. "On My Own" has a similarly hazy feel, with Celeste's lyrics left to drift over a ripe bassline, infectious stabs and plump, cascading synths. If her Brstl release showed her raw potential, then this EP catches her in fuller, more mature form. Celeste already has a sound that's truly hers.
