Kris Wadsworth - Uranus 333

  • The third instalment in Kris Wadsworth's URANUS series has a familiar flavour. Accompanying the A-side is a newly mixed, recut and remastered version of "Lime And Pink," a track that made waves when it first dropped on Birmingham's One Records in May 2011. But first there's "333a" to consider. Sticking to the label's gritty MO, Wadsworth combines husky kicks, leaden claps and echoed licks to form a firm, ashen base. While there's an inherent steeliness to the Detroit native's productions, they rarely feel morose, leaning instead towards an upbeat, even funky sound. This applies here, as trim synths hop, skip and jump across the dark frame. As for "333b", it's weightier and a little more reserved than the original version. Other than that, it's the same record. Propelled by warm pads, feel-good vocal snippets and an infectious synth line, it's the housiest outing from URANUS yet.
