Jerome - CGI002

  • So far, with its forays into "retro-leaning synth-pop" and glitchy, electronic club music, CGI_Records has stuck by its miscellaneous MO. Release number three continues to explore unchartered territory for the Atlanta label, presenting the meaty, classic house sounds of JEROME. Awash with devastating drums, crashing claps and heavyset synths, it's fair to say "4B" and "5" aim directly for the dance floor jugular. The former immediately opens up a dialogue between a set of booming stabs and low-slung synths, underlaying their groovy interplay with thumping kicks and acid curls. What's left is a winning slice of creamy '90s house. "5" is cut from much the same cloth, unleashing a driving, throbbing mass of jackhammer drums and 303 warbles from a muted covering of reverb and filter. As the record rolls on, a flurry of thunderous claps and metronomic snares give it more of a peak-time techno-lean, while still preserving that golden-era swing. Whatever way you look at it, they're a pair of main-room monsters.
