Oliver Hacke - Polar I

  • The 'Polar 1' series kicks off with non other than Oliver Hacke, the same producer who did the 'Psychometry' remix for Akufen & Process' 'Pelican', both on Trapez. Not forgetting the recent 'Clip' Ep, a peaktime minimal techno monster specifically aimed for the dancefloor. Bits of Hacke's distinct crisp & crunchy trademark sounds, unique to his productions, are minutely evident on this Ep. Although significantly different from most of his previous work, it however, shares a similar vein to the 'Lichtung Ep'. Nevetheless. it is safe to say that this release on Traum definitely holds its own. '21:31' is a funky dancefloor oriented number; kicking off with a four-on-the-floor beat decorated with the sharp crisp highs, splattered with an array of clicks & cuts. It then whips into a breakbeat pattern as the soundscapes creep in, before kicking back to four-on-the-floor pattern. Enter the bass hook. This has got to be one of the sickest basslines ever. Absolutely brilliant. No one can escape the funk of this track. On the flip, '12:31' is minimal compared to '21:31'. The layers of soundscapes that unfolds itself over the repetitive beats and splarking clicks produce a deep moody feel. At the same time, the way the track lures you, has an effect of getting you into the terrain of the unknown. Lost. Hypnotic. Clicky. Mine kind of stuff. One of the better releases from Traum, this is a must-have.
