Tricky - Back to Mine

  • For the latest installment of the very successful Back To Mine series, the lads from DMC have called on the services of Bristol lad Tricky to come up with a collection of goodies that has graced his very own playlist in the years gone by. Tricky first came to prominence as a guest vocalist for fellow Bristol lads Massive Attack, and since then he has really established himself as a veteran in the industry. This mix starts off beautifully with the classic sounds of The Cure with ‘Lullaby’. ‘How we Ride’ by the Little Kings is also a stunning highlight early on in the mix with its deep eerie sounds lurking underneath some steady hip hop vocals. ‘Believe This’ by Rodagan & Tricka is another exclusive to the album, and thankfully so as it is a great fusion of peculiar sounds and unique vocals. Le Tigre adds a unique touch with smooth vocals smothering tough guitar riffs and broken beats in ‘Much Finer’. Kate Bush gets a look in with the very quirky ‘Eat the Music’. The mix then ends with 2 smooth touches, firstly with ‘My Funny Valentine’ by Chet Baker and ‘Days Like This’ by the Little Kings. This Back To Mine definitely has its enjoyable moments and its clear to see the Tricky influences in some of the tracks, especially the exclusive ones signed to his Brown Punk label. If you are a Back To Mine addict then I think this could be a welcome addition to the crew.
