The Juan MacLean / Shit Robot – Feel Like Movin' / We Got A Love

  • Limited to 500 vinyl copies, this split single finds The Juan MacLean and Shit Robot on similarly upbeat, ivory-tinkling form. The Juan MacLean's cut, "Feel Like Movin'", is his latest collaboration with LCD Soundsystem's Nancy Whang, whose distinctive vocals have previously lit up "Happy House" and several other MacLean tracks. At eight minutes it's characteristically lengthy, but it wastes no time in heating up, with thudding bass drums and Chicago house keys bounding forth as Whang implores the listener to "put your feet on the dance floor and show me what you're made of." "It's the perfect night to get away..." she repeats, as another excellent Juan MacLean paean to the pleasures of hedonism comes to a close. Shit Robot's "We Got A Love" hangs on what sounds like a falsetto/baritone duet, but it's actually all the work of Reggie Watts. He's best known as a standup comedian but is also apparently a "closet soul vocalist." The quality of his contribution suggests that he should extract himself from this closet without further delay: Watts hits his highs and lows with equal flair, as deep bass and another full-fat piano house riff dominate the backdrop.
