Various - Communication 1: Wrong Island Remixes

  • Share
  • Wrong Island started life in 2007 as a monthly club night in a dark and sweaty Glasgow basement, and has since expanded to become a production unit and record label. This limited-edition vinyl release collects two remixes that Alan Thomson and Aleks Jurczyk, the production side of the operation, produced some time ago for two very different artists. First up is their rework of "Delve" by Helium Robots, the original version of which appeared a couple of years ago on Andy Blake's Dissident label. At its core is thrumming bass and a synth line that might have been plucked from Jeans Team's primetime canon. It's no surprise to learn that Brian "Auntie Flo" D'Souza has had the Wrong Island "Banishment Mix" of Anbuley's "Kemoo' Yo Keke" on heavy rotation recently. Anbuley is a Ghanaian vocalist who sings in a regional language called Ga that's only spoken by around 600,000 people. Her propulsive, mesmeric chanting sounds fantastic cloaked in a flurry of handclaps, bass drums, hi-hats and another heady bassline.
