dBRm - We Are No One You Know

  • dBridge and Radioactive Man are dBRm. Their debut collaboration, We Are No-One You Know, comes via Craig Richards' The Nothing Special, a label that has a history of hosting bass producers trying their hand at house (Marcus Intalex as Trevino, Dominik Martin). On the imprint's latest, however, the title track is the only overtly house moment, and the sure highlight. A heavy kick is matched with a classicist arpeggiating synth, pairing mid-tempo funk with electro hypnotism, the result being a welcome addition to whatever record bag it finds itself in. With more straightforward percussion, "Darnly" goes subaquatic, with a menacing low-end as its defining feature. "Hornsey Rise" is all about snare, and has the most broken beat on the release. The emphasis here is on the drums, which are crispy and highly swung. Nevertheless, it's the A-side that's going to be getting the most spins.
