Anthony Collins & Friends - Exhibit D

  • Share
  • The fourth in Anthony Collins' Exhibit series for his own Natural History label (an offshoot of Francis Harris and Collins' Scissor & Thread) encapsulates his deep analogue house style. This time he uses the release to throw a few ideas around with a couple of label mates, including Harris. Brooklyn duo Distant Phase joins the Frenchman on "Come Down," which begins with pumping kicks and lush pads. It all comes to an abrupt halt midway through, before reviving itself with an injection of tougher percussion and fizzing snares. Collins and Harris, the latter as Light Blue Mover, hook up for the soothing mid-tempo excursion "Arpiary." With a brooding analogue synth running through the track, the duo sprinkle on jazzy hi-hats, ocean liner horns and snare rolls that are cut off abruptly in their prime. It's the kind of terrace tune you could see acting as a welcome mid-set breather.
