Tornado Wallace - Desperate Pleasures

  • Share
  • With Desparate Pleasures, Melbourne producer Lewie Day, AKA Tornado Wallace, turns in another excellent EP, this time for the yet-to-put-a-foot-wrong Beats In Space Records. Each of its three tracks unfolds at the regal pace of a twilit midsummer stroll, and conjures images of hazy late-night experimentation with analogue gear. "Space Tropics" has the vibe of an '80s cop show soundtrack, with exotic percussion, a Moroder-esque synth line and soft washes of bass. "Desperate Pleasures" is even more spectral, kicking off with meditative percussion and anchoring itself on a Delia Gonzalez & Gavin Russom-style synth that's intercut with Ulrich Schnauss-ish wafts of guitar. "Okavango Delta" ploughs a different furrow, fusing tropical drums with a straining synth riff and gently using handclaps and didgeridoo samples to calming effect.
