Guti - Hope EP

  • Forming part of Defected's recent rebranding, their new label DFTD aims to expand the seasoned imprint's musical purview. In conjunction with their weekly residency at Ushuaia Tower in Ibiza (not to be confused with Defected In The House at Bomba), the idea is to focus on the next generation of house talent. Desolat staple Guti steps up for the inaugural release, with a suitably sun-soaked offering. "Hope" begins with bloated bass hits and a dazzling female vocal, casting the track in a casual, soulful light. Save for an added kick drum, little else happens, but it's a nice opener. After their outing on Crosstown Rebels in 2012, Guti again links up with compatriot Fosky on "La Casa." Fusing supple piano lines with a hefty groove, it's that trademark silvery Guti sound. "Funkapella" combines elements of both with a solid enough swing to make it dance floor-viable, while a summery vocal upholds a lighter feel. It's a solid start for DFTD. This release preserves the signature feel-good vibe of Defected, while offering something less overt.
