Chris Sterio – Orion

  • Source of Gravity headman Chris Sterio tries to put thing right on his label by releasing his very own production in Orion. As well as an original mix from the man himself, this release comes with a Downtempo reworking and a Katakana mix. Firstly on the a-side is the Original Furnace Mix. This is a dark churner that uses a deep baseline and sweeping effects to entice the listener. Vocal effects keep the dark underground vibes progressing as it maintains a similar flow throughout, with occasional breakdown interludes. Following this is the Lynx Downtempo Remix. As stated by the name, this remix takes it down a notch and uses some slow beats and quirky melodic tones. It slows the baseline from the original right down and introduces some very smooth strings for good effect. The vocal sample is used, and all in all, this is a great down tempo reworking. On the flip is Katakana’s Replicant Mix. Back to the 4/4 pattern, and this mix really beefs up the baseline. It pounds the speakers while the vocal effects and sounds crash in the background. The breakdown midway introduces some nice melodic effects and banging drums, while the baseline takes a stuttering shape and wobbles for the remainder of the production. Another solid release for the label and another good production for Chris Sterio, especially considering the quality remix he co-wrote with McGrath on Nascent Recordings.
