- From candy-sweet garage to DMZ-style dubstep, it seems like Bristol producer Kahn can do anything on a whim. His latest single shows him in grime mode, but it has some pretty big shoes to fill after last year's smash "Percy." Again teaming up with Neek on the Bandulu imprint, the duo bash out two more classic-style grime tracks with a modern makeover.
Like Terror Danjah drained of colour and humour, "Chevy"—a certified anthem in some circles—hits fast and snappy without an ounce of irony. "This cannot be" screams a disgruntled voice, just in case the barbed-wire basslines and bruised brass samples didn't get the point across. Imagine TNGHT's "Higher Ground" having convulsions, and you're close. "Thief In The Law" clenches even tighter, utilizing the same vocal but falling somewhere between grime and trap. Laced with swagger and Timbaland-style strings, it has an exotic flair that partially colours the greyscale. But nothing distracts from either track's greatest asset: pure impact.
