Jimmy Edgar - Hot Inside

  • Having worked together as JETS last year, Travis Stewart and Jimmy Edgar consummate their relationship with the launch of a label. Ultramajic, they say, will be club-focused. If Edgar's opening offering is typical of this then it's going to be quite a ride. These three tracks are some of the Berlin-based producer's purest party tunes yet. "Hot Inside" brings together screeching diva vocals, growling underwater beats and spanking bass synths. It soars, swoops and wooshes with total abandon. Edgar takes an even more direct route to the dancing gland on "Strike," a percussive electro workout, with a stabbing vocal sample used as a rhythmic device. There's a kind of frantic carnival vibe about it. Sending the EP in another direction altogether, "Shout" plunges sweaty, Moroder-ish synth lines into a bubbling vat of jacking beats and military snares. Edgar says these tracks were started when he was at Machu Picchu on a "metaphysical adventure"—surely the first Inca-inspired dance floor bombs, then?
