Chris Coco - Acoustic Chill 2

  • Chris Coco returns to the retail market with a down tempo release with the name Acoustic Chill 2. On paper, its an exciting blend of different artists such as the likes of Dandy Warhols, Doves and Craig Armstrong just to name a few, all displaying their softer sides of the musical spectrum. Disc One begins nicely enough with the relaxing guitar riffs and smooth vocals of Flunk’s reworking of New Order’s classic hit ‘Blue Monday’. The retro styling of ‘Stood on Gold’ by Gorkys Zygotic Mynci continue the smooth vibe as do the smooth atmospheric sounds of ‘Sleep’ by the Dany Warhols. The lovely ‘Bakerloo’ by King of Woolworths will have you in a state of relaxation in no time while ‘Wake up in New York’ is the smooth kind of music that you would expect from Craig Armstrong. The disc ends happily enough with the pleasing tones of ‘Baby You’re My Light’ by Richard Hawley. The smooth beats and vocals of Afterlife’s mix of Chris Coco’s very own ‘Hazy Life’ begin Disc Two. The Ellis Island Sound provides an early highlight with the delightful ‘Republica Evescarra’ while Devics also impress with the vocal delights of ‘Red Morning’. Hardkandy provide a nice jazzy interlude with ‘Summer of 9 5’ and the filtered vocals of ‘Two Stones in my Pocket’ Neil Halstead provide an early morning fusion of subtle guitar riffs and smooth strings. ‘Is a Woman’ by Lambchop closes out the mix in unique style. Acoustic Chill 2 is more of a collection of unique tracks compiled by Chris rather then a mix compilation that stresses the importance of a journey like flow. Be warned, this is very much a chill out cd, and there are no real moments when the beats get too overpowering in the mix. The real highlight of the cd though is the unique track selection, and although all the tracks chosen may not appeal, there are moments in there where you will appreciate the length Chris has gone to with this release.
