Shenoda - I Feel EP

  • Laurie Shenoda is a good fit for Huxley and Jimmy Posters' new label, Saints & Sonnets. With I Feel, he adds three groove-led house tracks their already impressive catalogue. "I Feel" is taut modern house that balances its elements perfectly. Confident, rounded bass notes and pulsating synths interplay with effected vocals and a string pad that carefully builds pressure. The break subtly shifts focus, and highlights Shenoda's knack for creating atmosphere. "Love Thing" is a slippery customer that pairs shuffling hats with a garagey bassline and chopped-up vox. Far from another '90s rehash, it fizzes with life. The standout, though, is "Suntrap," a confluence of shimmering synths, circuitous melodies and blocky percussion topped off with rich, syrupy notes. Shenoda's vocals are an integral part, both an insistent phrase and melodic element in their own right.
