Move D - To The Disco '77 + Hybrid Minds Remixes

  • Its title may hint at some full-on glitterball action, but Move D's "Move To The Disco '77" is flecked with only the merest of disco tropes—a muted Nile Rodgers-style guitar here, a pinch of vocal there. Instead, it's a rich slab of doleful house, with tripped out electric piano and a low, sonorous bassline underpinning it. As usual with Move D, it's elegance personified. The rest of the EP is taken up by remixes of Move D's last outing on Electric Minds. Jay Shepheard rinses "Got 2 B" with his tough, disco-tinged deep house sound. There's plenty going on: wooshes, low-end bass murmurings, a cropped electric piano loop and ambient synths lapping at its edges. Endian's understated mix offsets the languid mood with energetic, skipping beats and a hefty bass bump that points to his former gig as one half of drum & bass duo, Commix. Duff Disco's take on "Useless" is a lovely Balearic house number that sounds like someone's pitched it down to -8.
