Ejeca - Life In Flux

  • The garage-house revival has certainly generated some standout tracks in the last 18 months, but it's hard not to feel that the well may be drying. Alongside Citizen, Ejeca is one of the sound's poster boys, but the Belfast producer's latest EP suggests that the movement is losing some momentum. Aside from being a touch too basic, there's nothing inherently wrong with the four tracks on Life In Flux. All are richly crafted and perfectly fit for purpose. There is, however, a lingering familiarity here that borders on monotony. There isn't a great deal that distinguishes which era this EP is from, and Ejeca's apparent pursuit of authenticity ends up feeling a little contrived, something most notable on "Jump" and "Home." A track like "Agent Of The Deep" clearly comes from a place of deep respect for US house music's roots, but it's perhaps time that this clearly talented producer started placing less emphasis on the past.
