- Below's Adam Shelton may sit somewhat in the shadow of his prolific One Records label mate Subb-an, but commendable work on Air London and 20:20 Vision has shown a similar level of production skill and subtlety. Nottingham imprint Back To You is a good fit for his sound, with solid releases from Matthew Burton, DJ W!ld and Jordan Peak in its two-year history. Shelton appears here with two original tracks, plus remixes from Jay Bliss and Nick Lawson.
"Mindscape" focuses on rough, uncluttered grooves. Wrapping its vocal clips and string stabs in delay and reverb, the bassline rumbles under a flowing pad, while its rhythmic elements provide the peaks in a considered cut of dance floor funk. Nick Lawson's fine remix of the title track is deep and warm, submerging the original's elements in watery melodies and percussive hits for an understated take on the original's rawness. "Here Today Here Tomorrow" echoes "Mindscape"'s bright, shuffling drums, with a filtered vox stab and off-key bass at its core. Jay Bliss's rework distils it into a futuristic house cut, replete with buzzing, metallic notes, blocky hits and distorted vocals revolving around the central groove.
