- Morgan Alexander might live in LA, but his clanging beats feel like the antithesis of the city's permanently sunny skies. He's been doing the Bottom Floor party for a while now, and with The Every Make he becomes a producer and label head, inaugurating the Jack Van Sloot imprint with three heaps of grimy techno.
The EP's one constant is its clomping kicks; this is capital-T techno, and each track hits with an exaggerated quake. The "Super Sloot" mix of "Randomly Squared Move" has a against-the-grain rub that smacks of Marc Romboy and his Systematic label. It's abrasive, but also playful. "Job Creators" is almost a genial pisstake on the sound, juggling frantic arpeggios with humourous vocal samples ("somebody's gotta make the robots who make the robots!"). The EP winds down with the "Sorta Sloot" mix of "Randomly Squared Move," where the gritty synth lead is reshaped into smooth contours while the white noise elements gently nudge the beat. It's a treat to hear techno that's tinted this dark expressed with so much personality.
