Dusky - Nobody Else

  • Arriving in late 2011, Alfie Granger-Howell and Nick Harriman have enjoyed a steep ascendancy in profile as Dusky. On Nobody Else, their first release of the year, they switch from Will Saul's Simple to its sister-label, Aus. The vocal-led title track nods to the mid-'90s heyday of chart-house through a Hammond organ-line and turbine-like bass. "What I Never Knew" is another infectious inclusion, but is slightly undone by a breathy male vox. Heading into steppier territory with slightly less success, "Atone" contrasts a clatter of steel percussion against a frenetic sub-line, before "Dummy" completes the package in a versatile, yet fairly featureless display of US-leaning garage.
