Deadbeat - The Infinity Dubs Vol.1

  • Scott Monteith returns on his BLKRTZ imprint with a new series that, in part, showcases locked grooves. The two understated productions forming the aptly titled "Infinity Dubs Vol. 1" find the Canadian mainstay departing from the bass-weight of his last two albums towards a more rolling house sound. Comparable to Cobblestone Jazz, "ID1" shuffles along for ten minutes through looping claps and blurred chords, before dropping into a locked groove in the final 50 seconds. "ID2" also breaks in the final minute, but is percussively denser with more clarity between instrumentation. While neither has the guttural pressure of Monteith's recent triumphs, what they lack in muscle, they make up for in craftsmanship.
