Hellpass - Reviver 2003

  • Hellpass has been quite prolific in production circles in the last few years. With remixes of Void and Mangotrasher being quite successful as well as the unreleased mix of ‘Enjoy The Silence’ getting good treatment at this years WMC, he is indeed a producer who can deliver the goods. In this instance, Hellpass returns to action with Reviver 2003, a modern remake of his 2000 hit Reviver. Along for the ride are American producer Trey Smith and the Swedish duo in Homer & Lazon. On the a-side is the Hellpass Breaks 2003 Mix. The usual quality drums of Andy’s productions opens the track, but is soon overshadowed by the deep and rumbling baseline that sits underneath the sounds. The eerie sounds and melodies ring around the track, as do the effects and general atmospheric elements. The track takes twists and turns, leaving never a dull moment, and it is quite simply another great moment from the studio of Hellpass. A quality 2003 reworking. On the flip is firstly the Trey Smith Mix. Trey takes the production to a deeper and more techy level. The track builds with a 4/4 drum pattern that intertwines with some smooth sweeping effects and cut up effects from the original melody. It’s a warm and smooth remix from Trey that should please those looking for a more housey interpretation. Also on the flip is the Homer & Lazon Mix. Also adding a 4/4 beat to the equation, this mix makes great use of effects, and also a cracking electro melody/baseline that really encompasses the whole remix. The track breaksdown midway in true style, as the electro melody changes in sound and behaves in a unique and twisted manner. There is a great clash of the melody and the baseline as the beats come back in, really taking this remix to the next level. Solid work from this duo. A very solid release by Gravitation. Two good remixes as well as a very impressive reworking by Andy himself make this record one to check out.
