Marco Bernardi - Motorways

  • Serene consistency continues to be a feature of Marco Bernadi's productions, whether it's for Soma, Clone or here, for Futureboogie. The Glaswegian producer's standard method is to knit together crisp kicks, honeyed pads and complex melodies that dwell at the techno end of house. "Motorways," the most upfront of the three tracks, chugs along to a breathy synth, thumping Detroit-style tropes and chinking woodblocks, à la Kerri Chandler's "Bar A Thym." A growling, expansive bassline underpins "Space Coral," with a digital siren wailing away on top of it. There's more of a heads down, locked groove approach to "Cosmic Aroma," its dueling synth chimes overlapping like Sunday morning church bells. Bernadi works some alchemy here, offsetting the often tranquil nature of the melodies with espresso-strength hits of techier snarl.
