Slow Hands & Tanner Ross - All The Same

  • There's a danger that the subtle nature of "All the Same" might not allow the casual listener time to succumb to its charms. That said, Ryan "Slow Hands" Cavannah and Tanner Ross have been recording together for a little more than two years, which suggests they're in no hurry. It's a record that unfurls like a fern in the morning sunlight. Rather like a more dance floor-oriented Junior Boys, it's elegant, slo-mo electronica that gently rocks to burbling bass synths, with a sweet analogue synth motif gliding in and out. The understated poise of the original is eroded somewhat by the remix from The Bamboozla (Eli from Soul Clap) and Baby Prince (Gadi from Wolf + Lamb), who fatten it up for main room consumption with quaking keys and skippy snares, even working in brief breakbeat interludes at a couple of points. The "Jah Bless Reggae Mix" out-lazes even the main mix with its creeping, arpeggiated guitars, dubby rimshots and drumrolls. It calls to mind the dub house experiments of Solomonic Sound and the Worship Recordings roster a decade or more ago, albeit without quite the same aplomb.
