- Nicole Moudaber's approach to techno reflects her personality—it's no-nonsense, focused and, ultimately, fun. Moudaber has enjoyed a rapid rise, from promoter and label manager to one of techno's most reliable providers of good-time grooves. The only surprise is that she hasn't started her own label sooner. "In the Mood' launches Mood Records in suitably rollicking style, with a thumping kick/snare combo going toe-to-toe with moody stabs, twitching synth pulses and a vocal that's part Tenaglia, part ghetto tech. Toronto producer Nathan Borato keeps the hammer down with his remix, working in a grinding kick drum, snapping military snares and a whooshing, jet-like breakdown.
Moudaber's own rework reminds you that she can bang it out if need be; a thunderous peak-time dub, it discards most of the vocal, settles into a bulldozing groove and stays there. Like her mentor, Carl Cox, Moudaber is good at mixing it up.
