FNM - Rosso

  • German DJ and producer Felipe Moscatello enters the fray in 2013 with "Rosso," the third release from his own Save The Black Beauty imprint. Rebranding himself as FNM, Moscatello has so far put together a neat operation: limited edition, two-sided coloured vinyl, each complete with an FNM original and guest remix. To date, it's been the remixes that have caught the ear, offering up tougher takes on Moscatello's more disco-centric efforts. "Rosso" however, might just be the boss's strongest work to date. Though still suitably sanguine, there's something shadier and slightly more robust about this workout, be it the fat, instantly infectious bassline or the more detailed intricacy of the track's elemental interaction. As they swarm into consciousness, the thickset strings feel perfectly pronounced, corroborating an emotional intensity we've not yet seen from Moscatello. It's proper end-of-the-night disco-tech. Testament to the strength of the overall release, Italian producer Rubini doesn't buck the trend and let FNM have his day. Adopting a more hard-hitting stance, he turns out a real game-changer of a remix; it's the kind of record that captures the imagination of an entire dance-floor in a flash. With Rob Mello guesting on STBB004, FNM might have to wait further still before coming out on top. Somehow, I doubt he's too bothered.
