Terrence Dixon - Minimalism Re:Vision

  • Representing the final release on Claude Young's influential Utensil Records, many would pinpoint Terrence Dixon's "Minimalism" 12-inch in 1995 as one of the early cornerstones in the minimal techno movement. Now, with the Detroit-based recluse deservedly enjoying a lift in profile after his recent From The Far Future Pt. 2 album, the long-running THEMA label give the watershed release of Dixon's legacy a repackage. This four-track EP presents the original alongside remixes by Mike Huckaby, DVS1 and Silent Servant. Huckaby bases his rework around condensing and charging the drum grid, with flawless yet ultimately unmemorable results. Following on, Sandwell District associate Silent Servant ups the ante by drawing his inspiration from Dixon's more futuristic output, and installs an entirely new, acid-flecked bassline. Meanwhile, over on the flip, the Minneapolis-based DVS1 carves out a decent house rework, before Dixon's remarkably timeless sounding original completes what's a largely engaging package.
