- Like its predecessors, the eighth installment in the Delsin-distributed Field series shuttles between grey-scale techno and shimmering electronica—sometimes in the space of a single track. Artefakt's "Mirror Society" spends its first five minutes bleeping and growling in classic Sähkö/Sleeparchive mode; then, halfway through, an unexpected synthesizer melody flips its energy, like a tightly-wound coil going slack. Field 06 alumnus Mark du Mosch ratchets up the tension again with "Dwelling," outfitting watery midrange melodies with jittery, triple-time hi-hats reminiscent of T++ or Shed. Despite the force of its kick drum, it's an unusually quiet track, with remarkable dynamic range—soft but stern.
Steffi, making her first appearance on Field, burrows into the kind of linear groove she explored on her Midnight Magic remix, but "Full Glory" is even more restrained, with muted synth pads slowly blossoming from a rhythm of intricate hi-hats and stuttering breath. Finally, Ann Amiee's Area Forty_One delivers the EP's most expressive cut, a 118 BPM fusion of plangent synth leads and breakbeat-inspired drum patterns that suggest what Boards of Canada might sound like if they spent more time listening to Bunker and Crème Organization records.
