Klic & Lokiboi - Slow Down EP

  • Slowness in itself doesn't make for the super sensuous results many people are looking for when they reduce their tempo. Sometimes, in fact, they just sound laboured. It's the waviness of the chords and pendulous swing of the claps in Klic & Lokiboi's "Slow Down" that keep you locked here, though. Similarly sun-kissed and laced with frazzled disco synths is Frank Booker's remix, though the New Zealand man also adds some meat to the low-end so it bumps that bit more firmly. Continuing to prove himself a dexterous master of the deep, Ethyl's version is the best here: full of bubbling melodies and a more tumultuously swinging drum line, the Londoner manages to somehow bring a garage skip to what is otherwise a downbeat and dead-of-night disco charmer. "Slow Twist," however, feels a little forced. The heavily veiled vocal does its best to elevate things to a higher emotional plane but the trudging beats plod with a rather too heavy heart to really excel.
