Homepark - Fill Emptiness

  • Rather than getting too (obviously) clever or complex, each track on Fill Emptiness is grounded in an inviting, pacey groove before being embellished with a simple bulbous bass note, vocal coo or shape shifting synth. These little hooks, as well as keeping you locked into each sandpaper smooth rotation, also serve to highlight just how much genuine depth there is in each track; every one drifts off to an unseen abyss below as you glide onwards above. "Fill Emptiness" is the slickest pick, the rolling bottom-end glides and carries you along like a train to nowhere as wistful, candle lit melodic hues rise up through lovely claps and plenty of echo. Sublime and simple, it's simultaneously deep yet optimistically airy. "Fall Down" is grubby and slightly more broken. Incessant hi-hats are the backbone around which wavy synth notes, classic cowbell pings and gurgling bass gyrate freely. Closer "Ninety" squirms about with synth envelopes opening and closing freely, dragging you away then pulling you in as scraping percussion is offset with more radiant pads. They may not have pioneered anything new here, but Homepark seem to have an innate knack for teasing and titillating—without ever losing focus on the groove.
