- Striving to emulate seminal deep house imprints in this day and age could be seen as a retrograde, but when the music is as on-point as it is here, it's easy to forgive. "Growing History" is typical of a lot of the genre in question; taking its cues from the cream of mid-'90s Chicago, with a sprinkling of ethereal Detroit ambience on top, in its original version it's a melodic, atmospheric adventure that straddles the dance floor and the armchair. Moodymanc's "Dark Past Mix" is deceptively named, as it keeps to a Latin timetable and sounds anything but gloomy. His "Happy Memories Mix" ups the tempo further still, bringing the percussion to the fore and putting the space synth swirls on repeat. It's a disciplined whirling dervish of a groove which betrays the 20/20 Soundsystem drummer's virtuosity.
