- "Is Your Mother Home" comes on like a conceptual sleaze symphony where the emphasis is on atmosphere and foreboding. Having said that, I find it difficult to suppress a smile when listening to it. The title track with its growling synth line and seedy ambience is the standout here, but its dense farts and shopping list lyrics—amongst other themes—play the classic trick of relieving tension by juxtaposing it with the apparently comical. There are some very useful chat up lines here, if anyone's willing to risk them.
BMG and Derek Plaslaiko's separate dubs plough similar sub-tropical furrows, the latter moving up a notch in intensity from the former while still retaining the same sense of space and loneliness. "Daydreaming About Your Mom" and "Is Your Mother Done," meanwhile, perform a similar sonic service, embellished by another flanged—but this time wailing—synth.
