Ed Regan feat. Anna Lena - Ghostly Notes

  • Idiosync have been making some noise on Manchester's party scene for a couple of years now. Their slicker-than-average bookings from house and techno's vanguard suggest an appreciation for the finer things in life, and now they have started a label which seems like it will be just as cultured (not least because of the video that accompanies Idiosync001, a haunting story that captures the unease of the music perfectly). That music in its original form comes from producer Ed Regan. His "Ghostly Notes" is just that—a nervous, almost spiritual message from the other side that crackles and hisses with static. The key to it all is Anna Lenna's haunting and icy voice that drifts back and forth between glassy perc (à la early Fly Lo) while sporadic, muffled beats help complete an image of some humid but deserted back street somewhere in a darkened inner city. The remixes are all solid: Matthew Burton goes first with a churchy deep house roller, Dark Side of the Meat go all-out LA beat scene with their splintered hip-hop version before Butler and Murt offer an almost Balearic deep house rework. But none really eclipse the original's truly tortured beauty. Happily, then, it's Idiosync by name, idiosyncratic by nature.
