DJ Hyper - Catnip

  • After his recent Bedrock Breaks compilation release, the previously completed Y3K album, and being one of the collaborators in various productions works on labels around the world; it was surprising to hear that this was Guy Hatfield’s (aka DJ Hyper) first ever solo production. A: Original Mix The solidly kicking bassline sets the tone for this mix original and from there it develops into a rather vibrant breakbeat track. Hyper takes a light and fluffy uplifting angle with Catnip – moving away from the usual deep and dark sounds that are commonly associated with breaks. And towards the middle of the track builds a huge breakdown that leads the bassline together with some nice added effects up, enough, to work any up-for-it crowd into a complete frenzy! B: Noel’s Kamikaze ‘Catnip’ Cropduster Remix US based DJ and Producer, Noel Sanger, is responsible for the super long titled remix on the flip side of this vinyl. He has put together a remix in the ever so popular progressive house and breaks infused genre. It features a really strong main deep bassline and with the addition of some more progressive type sounds gives us something quite strong and interesting for the dance floor. Use of a solid breakdown and some generally nice sounds also helps add the excitement of this Cropdusting version of Catnip. This is most definitely a great release for Hyper, Noel Sanger and the Acetate LTD record label alike. And for all us breakbeat fans out there - hopefully this release is just the tip of the solo-production iceberg for the talented and highly regarded breakbeat purveyor, Hyper.
