Two Armadillos - Golden Age Thinking Part 2

  • As the title suggests, this is the second of three EPs that will make up Two Armadillos' debut full-length, Golden Age Thinking. Brits Giles Smith (secretsundaze) and Martin Dawson (King Roc) have fashioned the EP series to place dance floor offerings alongside more laidback cuts. Eight-and-a-half minutes might seem long enough for a dance floor track to make its point, but, if anything, "Theme" could keep on for longer without a problem. Like geeky groove scientists emerging from some smoky basement laboratory, Smith and Dawson have concocted another perfectly deep and undeviating house roller. It's proof, if needed, that English dudes can go as deep, soulful and jazzy as anyone from the oft-referenced mecca of Detroit. "Flat Lining" is far from stark as well, with hot billows of lowdown synths swirling underneath heartfelt female coos. "These Feelings" strikes a more introspective pose: Beautiful ripples of piano, sandy shakers and what sound like melancholic twangs on a double bass are all well-placed, human and somehow seem very honest. Once again, the whole package moves you: both inside and out.
