Dadub - Way To Moksha

  • Dadub are bullies. At least they are in terms of what they do with their dub. Sometimes they force it into tight dark corners, at others into gallivanting techno frameworks and, occasionally, they stretch it out into eight minutes of sonic landscaping so epic you can only imagine it being played at the zenith of a seven hour set, just as the rush is over and the pure, clear euphoria of an ecstasy high really sets in. Anyway, that's what happens across the tracks of Way to Moksha, which like most of the Italian pair's work is well at home on Lucy's textural techno outpost, Stroboscopic Artefacts. Opener "Perseverence" is the intense and lengthy opener with snaking, scraping synth sounds and syncopated rhythms roaming free through a subterranean network of darkened caves. Though smoothed and stretched out to eight minutes long, it still has plenty of scale and texture where "Temptation of Maya" is more coiled up. "Beyond the Veil" is paranoid and impatient, alive with scurrying little details and pregnant with foreboding. Stick with it until the beast grows more familiar, though, and it's surprisingly soothing. Closer "Moksha" might just be the highlight for the way stumbling, staccato beats rock forward and back on their heels, forcing you to do the same. If you can manage to make yourself at home in Dadub's deep and mystical dystopia, you'll never want to leave.
