About

  • Digiprana is an electronic music label founded in 2007 by DJ/radio personality YUA of NY.COSM. He coined the Digiprana brand in 2006 while jogging on a treadmill and listening back to one of his mixes. The name originated from the synthesis of two words: “digital” and “prana”—meaning “breath of life” or “life energy”. Under YUA’s direction, Digiprana released 33 EPs from various international artists, among them: Lee Pennington, Funky Junction, Authophase, Dibby Dougherty, Left/Right, Marcus Gauntlett, Tempered DJs and Zimbardo. EPs like 2008’s Bonen Op Toost, and Moosic, by Autophase garnered 4 out of 5 star reviews from DJ Mag and International DJ—which tagged them as “ones to watch.” The record label flourished naturally from YUA’s Digiprana Sounds broadcast, which ran weekly from 2006 to 2011 on 90.3 WHCR FM in Harlem, New York. During this time, YUA—then performing under his Digiprana & JD Turbine pseudonyms—was also a guest DJ on Sirius Satellite Radio (now SiriusXM). In NYC, YUA was the host of monthly Digiprana event nights at Bar 13, Stay, Polar & Sapphire, and co-host at Modern Codes, Soundgroove, Circle, Just Because, Redrum, Digital/Analog, Massive Groove, Mainframe and Drumnation. His productions on the Digiprana label included collaborations with fellow artists Tom Collingburn (aka Autophase), DJ Kermit, and Rey Santiago. After relocating from Harlem to Brooklyn in 2012, YUA sunset Digiprana to revisit his musical roots, joining the alternative rock band Spells and Curses. He was the band’s bassist from 2013-2016, and appeared in the group’s second video for the song Mercedes. He also performed regularly with Billboard charting artist Brielle, playing guitars and synths during their live shows from 2016-2018. In 2020, YUA evolved the Digiprana seal to create the NY.COSM broadcast. Along with curating and mixing the show, YUA also voices the program, guiding his audience through a sublime journey behind the sounds in the mix.
