  • There's no need for preoccupation over A Sagittariun's identity: "the confident and accomplished beats speak for themselves." Since October 2011, the Bristol-based producer (this much we do know) has operated exclusively out of his/her own Elastic Dreams imprint. A trio of 12-inches in this time have been unified by sonic allusions to the cosmos. '90s IDM and techno have been touchstones but A Sagittariun has just as fluidly done dub and downtempo. The entrancing "Wind Tunnel" from the third 12-inch is a great place to start for the uninitiated. On RA.332, A Sagittariun approaches the mix in a manner that's certainly a first for us: four discrete "levels" move through krautrock, techno, electro and experimental while maintaining the slippery and stratospheric A Sagittariun aesthetic. What have you been up to recently? I've been busy working on new production ideas, little sketches that will hopefully form the next few releases on my label Elastic Dreams. And looking for some better weather than there has been in the UK right now... How and where was the mix recorded? The mix came together after much thought, and was put together in my studio. The mix was recorded in various segments, and was edited and pieced together in Ableton. The various samples, film and television dialogue was then worked in to the various parts of the mix. Can you tell us about the idea behind the mix? I wanted to deliver more than a DJ mix. My influence has always come from radio, and especially the underground late night radio that I listened to back in the day, stuff like Kiss FM where you would have some very experimental, ambient and electronic shows in the early hours. I also wanted to tap into the various dream states that everyone has and experiences, and so I presented this podcast in various segments, each representing different successions of sound, tempo, ideas, sensations etc. I think it's a nice journey through the familiar, the not so familiar, the various sounds and styles of the A Sagittariun project... Why the anonymity? Right now I am just interested in A Sagittariun as a project, both musical and visual. I don't feel the need to have to explain who I am or where I have come from, what my backstory is, etc. I'd rather just create music as A Sagittariun, there's little point to what I am doing if I have to explain what my birth name is. Of course, producing other forms of music under my birth name would create a distraction to this project, so I would rather simply be known as A Sagittariun, the ninth sign. What are you up to next? I'm planning an album now. I always feel restricted by 12-inch releases, and I think that the message and sound I am trying to convey would work better over a full-length music project, so I'm just taking my time in the studio to get the right blend and atmosphere before beginning to compile my first album. I'll also be bringing some new releases from other artists to the Elastic Dreams label, but right now the project is quite personal to me so in regards to other artists' music, it really has to fit into the atmosphere that I am bringing with the Elastic Dreams label. Then hopefully when the album is done, I'll be getting a live experience put together for spring 2013. I'd like to put together something really inspiring, both musically and visually, using film/slides/lights and projections, so possibly enlisting some help to take A Sagittariun on the road as a full production. We'll see...
