  • Nic Fanciulli is part of a generation of DJs who got their break by handing a demo tape to a club owner. But Fanciulli's rise to become an internationally respected DJ and producer really stands out when you consider that the club in question wasn't in a dance music hub like London or Berlin, but in Maidstone, a small town in the South East of England. As a resident at Club Class, Fanciulli played with some of the best DJs in the world, and he formed studio partnerships with guys like Andy Chatterley that would go on to define his production career. Collaboration has been a recurring feature in Fanciulli's success. He started Saved Records with his brother Mark, and together they've overseen a prolific ten years that have featured releases from the likes of Mark Broom, DJ Rolando and Andrea Oliva. There was One + One, the popular DJ partnership he formed with James Zabiela that toured the world. He's spent time in the studio with guys like Steve Mac, Stacey Pullen and Gary Beck. And most recently he hooked up Joris Voorn to start La Familia, with the pair playing and programming a string of dates at Ushuaia in Ibiza. In April Fanciulli will set out on a world tour that will take him to eight countries in ten days, but wherever he ends up or whatever he's achieved over the years, it seems that all roads lead back to Maidstone. Fanciulli still lives in the town, and when we sat down to chat in London recently, he told me about The Social, a boutique festival he runs annually in Maidstone with the aim of bringing world-class music to the town.
