  • The Sub Club originals on life in the booth.

  • For the past 20 years, James Harrigan and Domenic Cappello have spent most Saturday nights behind the booth at the Sub Club. They started Subculture at the famed Glasgow nightspot back in 1994, which makes their residency one of the world's longest-running house and techno nights. (For more about the Sub Club, check out RA and SONOS's recent ORIGINS film about Jackmaster.) Both were already ingrained in Glasgow's nightlife before Subculture started—Harrigan ran a Sub Club residency called Atlantis with Slam's Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle, while Cappello had developed an early passion for electro and breakdancing. When they popped by our London office in late December, Aaron Coultate found the pair in jovial mood, and it was little surprise: they were at the end of a milestone a year that saw them play some of Europe's key nightclubs—Trouw, Panorama Bar, fabric—as well as celebrate the 20th anniversary of Subculture.
