  • Few artists have brought underground dance music to as many people as Roni Size. In 1997, along with his group Reprazent, the Bristol-born jungle and drum & bass icon released the double album New Forms, which received considerable critical acclaim, won the group the Mercury Music Prize and spawned the massive crossover single "Brown Paper Bag." The album might be the biggest bullet point in any assessment of Roni Size's career, but it's hardly the only one—he's run labels, amassed an impressive list of collaborations and played festivals from Glastonbury to Coachella. When Joe Muggs caught up with him recently in London, Size was just about to release Take Kontrol, his first album of wholly original material in a decade and a sort of comeback record after a break from the spotlight. They started off by discussing what he's been up to during the last four years, when music making has taken a backseat to some other critical aspects of his life.
